Centre sues Nestle for Rs 640 cr

The Department of Consumer Affairs filed a complaint Tuesday against the main meal Nestle India with the National Consumer Disputes Commission amends (NCDRC) seeking damages of 640 million rupees' alleging that the company sold unsafe and dangerous products Maggi noodles millions consumer that endanger their health. It has also requested the imposition of 18% interest on the damages claimed until payment is made by the firm. The complaint department also said that the claim for damages could increase as more revelations and findings on the "unsafe" products surface.

In his prayer, the ministry said, "Punitive damages specimens are significant in this case and are designed to reform and deter opponent businesses and other food products incur similar conduct" to Nestle for the common public not suffer and is not powerless to protect their health and welfare. The complaint was examined by Advocate General Sanjay Jain added.

Claiming that their unfair trade practices and defective and dangerous products has caused injury to millions of consumers, the department has tried to "class action" against the company.
