YSRCP to hold protest in Delhi for AP Special status

The latent dissatisfaction with the delay in granting the special status of Andhra Pradesh erupted on Saturday when a worker attempted suicide Congress up in flames in a public meeting organized by the Committee of the Congress of Andhra Pradesh here. Although top leaders of Congress were attacking the government NDA to "return" in its pre-poll promise, man, Muni Koti, 46, rushed to the stage, raised slogans demanding special status before spraying himself with kerosene and catch on fire.


Koti, a resident of La Mancha Street in Temple City, suffered burns to 95 percent. He is a divorced and lives alone. Koti friend Seshu, 32, who came to his rescue, also suffered injuries. Chief mourner told the media that Koti was a staunch Congress worker.

Koti had apparently been depressed over the denial of the situation and often criticized the center for not keeping his promise. "He attended the meeting in an emotional state and took the extreme step," said Seshu.

APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy announced Rs 2 lakh assistance in addition to the promise to take care of the medical needs of Koti.

The suicide attempt caused tension in the city, as police stepped up security as a precaution. Koti has been admitted to hospital Ruia. A large number of Congress workers gathered at the hospital raising slogans against the BJP and TDP. Later, he moved to CMC Vellore Koti and his condition is said to be critical. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu AP held a meeting with opinion leaders in Hyderabad TDP high and urged young people against the use suicides special condition. "The state government has been constantly trying to secure special category status," he said.

The demands of the situation escalated after the center enough clues in Parliament it was not possible for the state declined. The AP State Reorganisation Bill, 2014, had made a provision for the special status for the residual state for five years.
