Telangana's love for new vehicles drying up coffers in state

Not just K Chandrasekhar Rao has acquired for itself new wheelsets since he took office as prime minister a little more than a year ago. A few months ago, the forest department vehicles purchased at a cost of Rs 28.86 crore.Finance department also has administrative penalty for the purchase of Corolla Altis and Innova costs Rs 30.70 lakh for officials this May.

"Some, such as field staff of police departments and forestry require vehicles that are in good condition. However, many officials have changed vehicles were purchased less than five years ago. The previous government discouraged the practice of the purchase of new vehicles and asked departments to hire vehicles to reduce the burden on the government. But now the state government has opened doors for the acquisition of new vehicles, "said an official of the department of general administration.
