Ganesha in Hussainsagar this year too..

The government seems to have given up its proposal to prevent the immersion of idols of Ganesha in Hussainsagar and the creation of Indira Park Vinayakasagar exclusively to immerse the idols, at least for this year.

The High Court of Hyderabad had recently asked the government whether it would be possible to stop dives Hussainsagar and sought a report. However, government sources said it would not be possible to stop dives at this time as the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is less than a month away.

Last year, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had announced big plans Hussainsagar emptying and cleaning immersion moving to Vinayakasagar proposed. However, GHMC engineering wing government reported earlier this year that it was not feasible to have a pond deep enough to allow immersion idol Indira Park. They also noted the potential oppo sition of environmentalists and traffic management issues that arise during the processions.

Although the Prime Minister held a meeting of all parties, where the issue was discussed, consensus could not be reached. "Overall, the state government holds a meeting with Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi and representatives of all political parties seeking their cooperation in the period prior to Ganesh Chaturthi. It also asks them to reduce the height of the idols of Ganesha. But this time , no such meeting has been called so far, "said an official HMDA.

In fact, an official team went to Bangalore to study the ponds developed exclu sively for diving. "There are 40 such lakes in Bangalore. The team visited Ulsur. The idols in Bangalore height is usually between one and eight feet. In Hyderabad, the height up even 60 feet and therefore immersion in small ponds is not possible, "she said an official, who was part of the team, told TOI.

Despite efforts by the government to restrict the number of idols, the numbers are increasing. The HMDA removed 3,723 tons of debris idol after immersion in 2013. In 2014, this figure rose to 4,100 tons.

GHMC officials said that in the past two years, the government has managed to divert the immersion of idols than Hussainsagar lakes. Nearly 50,000 idols were diverted to about 20 lakes such as Saroornagar and Kapra. Even after this, nearly 40,000 idols end up in Hussainsagar.

"The government can not restrict the height of idols, and that is linked to religious feelings. The only solution is to identify more lakes suitable for immersion and divert Ganesha idols there," said a senior GHMC.
