Man sets himself fire over special status for Andhra Pradesh

Pandemonium prevailed for some time as Congress activist and former director Gangamma temple Koti Reddy Muni set fire to himself after spraying with kerosene near a dharna cum public meeting organized by congressional leaders at the municipal office on Saturday.

Koti Koti Reddy alias Muni attended a meeting and saw the arrangements in place before the start of the meeting. While former Minister of Central Killi Kriparani addressed the meeting about getting a special status to the state, Koti stormed the crowd to get to the stage on fire. The public, including the leaders on the dais panicked and fled. In the melee Koti he went to the door of the municipal office. After reeling at a distance from the stage on fire, Koti collapsed. Within seconds, Koti activists rushed to hospital in a private vehicle Ruia after putting out the fire.

Doctors Ruia, who gave him first aid in the emergency, said it had received 60 percent burns and added Koti condition was critical. Later, he moved to Koti burns ward and a battery of doctors including Superintendent T. Sandhya taken to hospital and directed the staff to better treatment.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the PCC, Raghuveera Reddy announced Rs 2 lakh for help from family and support the insured party. He and former cabinet minister Chiranjeevi asked the people not to venture into life these attempts to lose special status.
