Plane Crashs into Cars : Seven dead

A jet crashed into several cars on a road near an air show in southern England on Saturday, killing seven people, police said.

The Hawker Hunter fighter jet crashed on the A27 road, near an airport in Shoreham where the air show was taking place near the city of Brighton.

One person was being treated for life-threatening injuries and 14 others were being treated for minor injuries, police said in a statement.

Video footage posted online showed the plane in the process of executing a stunt loop before it hit the ground, causing an explosion that seemed to envelop some cars on a highway.

"I had gone up in a loop and when he was out of the loop just thought, you're too low, you are too low, pull up" the BBC quoted an eyewitness, Stephen Jones, as saying.

"And it flew straight into the ground, either in or very close to the A27, which goes beyond the airport."

Media reports said the plane's pilot was pulled from the burning wreckage.

The accident occurred at about 1220 GMT.

The Hawker Hunter is a single-seater aircraft that was developed by Britain in the 1950s.

Seven people died when two planes practicing for an air show crashed in Slovakia on Thursday. A paratrooper US Army died after he was involved in a midair collision with another parachutist at an air show in Chicago last Saturday.
